Me z.
Me znj.

Can democracy be strong without political parties that earn citizens' trust and leaders who are accountable to them?
This question was at the heart of Seminar V of the School of Politics, where two days of discussions focused on the role of political parties, the importance of responsible leadership, and the challenges of democratic participation in Kosovo.
With Mr. Artan Mustafa and Dr. Butrint Berisha, we explored how political parties and political organization have evolved, from traditional ideological divisions and the historical development of political thought in Kosovo to populism, changing voter behaviour, and the challenges political parties face today. How has the past shaped our political system, and to what extent are political parties meeting citizens' expectations?
With Mr. Valon Kurhasani, we turned to a fundamental challenge for democracy: how can political parties reconnect with citizens? Why is the distance between them growing, and how can more meaningful opportunities for participation be created, particularly for young people and groups often excluded from decision-making?
We also dedicated particular attention to women's representation and leadership in politics. With Ms. Hykmete Bajrami, we discussed the barriers women face within political party structures and an important distinction: is increasing the number of women in politics enough, or must we also ensure they have genuine opportunities to influence decision-making?
In our closing session, with Prof. Ibrahim Berisha, we reflected on Kosovo's history during the 1990s, exploring the political culture of resistance, the establishment of independent institutions, and the role of civic solidarity in building trust and political organization.
With these discussions, we concluded Seminar V on Political Parties, Responsible Leadership, and Democratic Participation, reflecting on how political parties, leaders, and citizens can contribute to a more representative, inclusive, and accountable democracy.
