On July 11th Pristina Institute for Political Studies (PIPS), together with the Group for Legal and Political Studies (GLPS ) organized the first thematic roundtable "The impact of the SAA in economic development and foreign direct investments". The panelists that contributed to this roundtable, apart from PIPS Executive Director Mrs. Leonora Kryezu, were: H.E. Mrs. Gerrie WILLEMS, Ambassador of Kingdom of Netherlands in Prishtina; Mrs. Hykmete Bajrami, Minsiter of Trade and Industry; Mr. Shpend BALIJA, Executive Director of the European Council of Investors; Mr. Bernard NIKAJ Ambassador Designate for Brussels & Former Minister of Trade and Industry; and Mr. Kapllan Halimi, Secretary General at Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development. One of the remarks of the discussion was that SAA is a milestone for Kosovo and represents a good foundation for Kosovo's economic development, by stimulating the domestic production and foreign direct investments. At the same time it was stated that the rule of law and combating corruption are key issues to be addressed which otherwise could undermine the results of the SAA. On top of that, it was concluded that the SAA provides a legal framework that could instigate reforms for Kosovo's economy, by offering at the same time access to a market of 500 million for Kosovar businesses, but at the end of the day it is up to the Kosovo’s institutions to bring the best out of this agreement.
