What are Kosovo institutions doing to combat violent extremism?
On 8 December PIPS held a discussion regarding what Kosovo institutions are doing to tackle issues of violent extremism. This discussion was held as part of the Resilient Community Program (a consortium between Advocacy Training and Resource Center - ATRC, PEN - Peer Educators Network, Balkan Investigative Reporting Network and Prishtina Institute for Political Studies) supported by the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund - GCERF and USAID.

The panel was attended by Mrs. Ganimete Gërbovci from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Mrs. Adelina Ahmeti from BIRN Kosovo, and Mr. Skënder Përteshi from the Kosovar Center for Security Studies - KCSS.

This discussion essentially addressed the combination of different measures taken by Kosovo institutions, also taking into account the views from the media and civil society.

An outcome from the discussion was that Kosovo institutions have been successful in addressing this phenomenon.

However, there is a continuous need for equal treatment of persons in the reintegration process, consequently school teachers and social workers need to be trained on the matters of terrorism and violent extremism.
These reintegration programs in Kosovo try to have a intergenerational impact to avoid the spread of radicalism across generations.

The discussion concluded that Kosovo is a positive example in the region in regards to the work that has been done for the reintegration of radicalized persons.
