The Prishtina Institute for Political Studies (PIPS) held a meeting yesterday in Gjakova with young representatives of political parties, with participation from all parliamentary parties (Vetëvendosje Movement – LVV, Democratic Party of Kosovo – PDK, Democratic League of Kosovo – LDK, and Alliance for the Future of Kosovo – AAK).
The meeting focused on the trajectory of Albanian political thought and political organisation in Kosovo, from 1918 to the present day, opening a discussion on the different political traditions that have influenced the development of Kosovo’s society and politics.
Participants also discussed political and ideological legacies, their influence on voters, the shift from nationalist agendas towards liberal and democratic ones, as well as the impact of changes in the international order on political engagement in Kosovo.
An important part of the discussion focused on political apathy and the meaning of ideology in contemporary politics: Does ideology still matter to voters? What remains from the political traditions of the past, and how are they reflected in today’s politics?
Meetings such as this aim to create spaces where young people from different political backgrounds can discuss, listen to one another, and build a culture of political dialogue beyond party differences.
This activity was organised as part of PIPS’ work on interparty dialogue and strengthening youth participation in Kosovo’s political life, with the support of Demo Finland.
